Meet Santos, Dreamer's older brother. Dreamer, the Homie tragically shot at a graduation party meant to celebrate him and Sad Girl. Santos was once a hardcore gangbanger, living a dangerous life. He was incredibly proud of Dreamer for many reasons—not just for his artistic talent, but because Dreamer was the first of the four brothers to make it to high school graduation. Now, with Dreamer gone, Santos is the only brother left. Two of Santos's other brothers were also lost to gang violence. He often wonders why he was spared while Dreamer, who was so full of potential, was taken. Santos was the Vato Loco—the one always running with the crew, loyal to the end, ready to fight and die for the Barrio. Dreamer, on the other hand, was different. He went to school, spent time with Sad Girl, and even earned a full scholarship to an art college. Dreamer was kind-hearted, painting beautiful murals of Jesucristo and La Virgencita in the Barrio. So why was Dreamer taken, and not him? Devastated by the loss, Santos contemplated suicide. But Sad Girl helped him see a different way forward. She encouraged him to live for Dreamer’s memory and dedicate his life to sharing the pain of the gang lifestyle with others. He realized he could tell young Homies that the respect and glamour they sought in the gang life only lead to suffering, loss, and loneliness. The life they’re living isn’t worth the price of losing someone like Dreamer. Santos is now a minister, driven by a mission to save others from the life he once lived. He’s spread the message about the destructive nature of gangs and drugs, and has helped many lost Homies find the light. He now runs Homies Outreach, a nonprofit church that provides support to Homies who want to turn their lives around and find redemption.
