Pirate is an independent cab driver working the streets of East Los Angeles. Rather than spending thousands of dollars on a formal taxi licence, he chose to run his own operation and take passengers wherever they need to go.
His nickname is more than a joke. Pirate is blind in one eye, missing one leg and drives a custom black Lincoln Town Car named the Jolly Roger, complete with skull murals and oversized 24-inch rims.
Years earlier, Pirate drove a bright yellow Buick that attracted the attention of a group determined to steal it. When he refused to hand over the car, they attacked him and took him to Santa Monica Pier, where they threw him into the ocean. During the ordeal, a shark took his leg, leaving him permanently injured.
Despite everything that happened, Pirate survived and eventually returned to the road. Instead of allowing the experience to end his livelihood, he built another customised cab and continued working with the same fearless attitude.
