Tortuga, meaning “turtle” in Spanish, earned his nickname from the unusual posture and slow-moving mannerisms he has displayed since childhood. His rounded build, noticeable slouch and habit of moving at his own pace regularly reminded his mother of a small turtle.
Even as a baby, Tortuga behaved differently from the people around him. He moved very little, turned his head in a distinctive way and seemed perfectly content with a simple diet of lettuce and water. These habits became part of the neighbourhood humour surrounding his turtle-like identity.
The Homies have offered plenty of playful explanations for his appearance. Some blame his childhood diet, while others believe he was simply born with a natural resemblance to a tortuga. Whatever the reason, Tortuga accepts the nickname as part of who he is.
Rather than rushing to keep up with everyone else, Tortuga approaches life at his own pace. His relaxed movement, memorable posture and visual resemblance to a turtle make him immediately recognisable within the Series 7 lineup.
Collectors appreciate Tortuga because his personality is communicated clearly through the figure’s design. His humorous origin story and unmistakable silhouette add visual variety to a Homies display without relying on an elaborate profession or dramatic backstory.
