Sister Mary Maria is an old-school nun from the Sisters of Mary order, fully dedicated to God and serving others. Her special mission is guiding and educating the young Homies at Virgen de Guadalupe Elementary School, a Catholic school where she serves as both Principal and Vice Principal. She also teaches every religion class, making sure the students learn not just academics but faith as well.  With a firm but caring hand, Sister Mary Maria enforces discipline—her trusty yardstick helps keep the more rebellious Homies in line. She has a strict no-tolerance policy for graffiti, smoking, swearing, gang fights, or weapons in her classroom. Break the rules, and you’ll feel it on your knuckles!  Though her methods may seem tough, every student who graduates from her 8th-grade class goes on to do well in high school, a fact she takes great pride in. They might not always appreciate her strict ways at the time, but as they grow older, they remain grateful for the discipline and guidance she gave them. And above all, they never forget her most important lesson—that the Virgin Mary is always there, ready to offer grace to those who turn to her.
